Sponsorship overview
The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is not about running, it is about life, honoring the memory of life lost through tragedy, celebrating the gift of life given equally to each person, and reaching forward to the life yet to be lived.
The Marathon was created to memorialize and honor those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever as a result of the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building. From its inaugural race in 2001, the Marathon continues to realize consistent and impressive growth each year. Beginning its first year with just shy of 5,000 participants, our 2019 Marathon welcomed 23,790 runners from all 50 states and 13 countries. The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon begins at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, packed with 26.2 miles of cheering supporters and the most beautiful neighborhoods in Oklahoma City. Along the way, runners pass 168 banners, each bearing the name of one of those who were killed in the bombing. Just before the start of the race, runners line up in their respective corrals at the Start Line, standing so quietly you could hear a pin drop, for 168 seconds of silence to honor the memories of those 168 individuals who were killed. The race is a tribute both to the victims of the bombing and the resilience of the people of Oklahoma City. Hailed by Runner’s World Magazine as one of the “12 Must Run Marathons” in the world, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon continues to be one of the region’s premier and most anticipated running events among runners, volunteers and spectators. It has earned the reputation as being among the most hospitable and enjoyable marathons in the country.
